Print Buyer Boot Camp!™

Monday, September 12th, 2011 | 9 am – 5 pm

Print Buyer Boot Camp!™ is a Print Buyers International (PBI) program developed to serve professionals who work with commercial printers. This unique curriculum was developed by PBI’s founder, Margie Dana, and industry expert Frank Romano, to help provide new print buyers, print designers, and marketers – as well as new sales and service reps – with vital information and insights that they can put to use immediately.

The curriculum covers not only the major printing processes, paper issues, industry terminology, and current trends, but it also educates attendees about how best to work with printers. An overview of the industry is always a part of Boot Camp. We believe that perspective gives all of us the best view from which to do our work. Attendees of Boot Camp will gain a broad knowledge base about today’s printing industry and a roadmap for working effectively – and harmoniously – with printers.

Margie Dana, Founder, Print Buyers International

Margie Dana is a former print buyer who turned her passion for printing into a print consulting business. She writes her popular e-column, Margie’s Print Tips, to build bridges between the printing industry and its customers.

For several years, Margie’s been a popular speaker at industry events that target printers and/or print customers. Her presentations are inspiring, passionate, and interactive. She’s the founder of Print Buyers International, an organization that’s dedicated to serving print customers worldwide.

In addition to authoring dozens of articles about printing, Margie has published two books. Put It on Paper! Every Person’s Guide to the Printing Industry, was her first book, and her latest book, now available via PBI’s web site, is Print Buying Made Simple.

Frank Romano, Professor Emeritus, RIT

Frank Romano has spent 50 years in the printing and publishing industries. Many know him best as the editor of the International Paper Pocket Pal or from the hundreds of articles he has written for publications from North America and Europe to the Middle East to Asia and Australia.

He is the author of over 45 books, including the 10,000-term Encyclopedia of Graphic Communications (with Richard Romano), the standard reference in the field. His books on QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, and PDF workflow were among the first in their fields. He has authored most of the books on digital printing.

The founder of eight publications, he’s served as publisher or editor for TypeWorld/Electronic Publishing, Computer Artist, Color Publishing, The Typographer, EP&P, and both the NCPA and PrintRIT Journals.

Romano lectures extensively, having addressed virtually every club, association, group, and professional organization at one time or another. He is one of the industry’s foremost keynote speakers.
He has consulted for major corporations, publishers, government, and other users of digital printing and publishing technology. He wrote the first report on on-demand digital printing in 1980 and ran the first conference on the subject in 1985.

He has been quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Times of London, USA Today, Business Week, Forbes, and many other newspapers and publications, as well as on TV and radio. He has partnered with InfoTrends on strategic information for the printing industry. He continues to teach courses at RIT and other universities and works with students on unique research projects.

Steve Suffoletto, Print Educator

Until recently, Steve Suffoletto was with RIT’s Printing Application Lab, where he’d been since 1997. In that role, he trained and consulted in a variety of subjects, such as color measurement, color control, and color management. Besides conducting public seminars at RIT, he often trains at the customer’s site in the United States and Canada as well as Mexico, with assignments in Barbados, Australia, France, England, Belgium, Trinidad, and Guatemala.

Steve attended RIT and received his degree in 1981 from the School of Printing Management and Sciences. His father was a printer, and he has two brothers that are also in printing. He has over 33 years of diversified industry experience and worked 10 years in production and quality management for sheetfed commercial, cosmetic folding carton packaging, and paperback book printers.

Steve is a frequent speaker at tradeshows and conference across the country, especially Graph Expo.
